Thank you for using Skinder! Skinder is a teaching tool used to help people from all backgrounds learn to distinguish melanomas from melanoma mimics. Skinder uses the same technique of high volume image recognition that is used by dermatologists and physicians to accurately diagnose melanomas. Our goal is to make as many people as possible aware of their skin and what is on it. All images on Skinder are used for teaching purposes only and using images from the app for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.
Disclaimer: Please see your doctor or go to the nearest emergency department if you experience sudden skin changes, skin-related symptoms, or are concerned about a skin lesion. Skinder is not a diagnostic tool and all diagnoses need to be made by a healthcare professional.
We are always trying to make Skinder better. If you have any images of melanomas or melanoma mimics that you would like to share with the Skinder community please email them to yas0002@mix.wvu.edu.
Skinder was created under the supervision of Dr. Michael Kolodney who is currently the Chair of the Department of Dermatology at West Virginia University School of Medicine. The project was funded by the generosity of the West Virginia University Health and Sciences Center. Special thank you to Yousuf Sherwani, Garrett Coman, Frank Lacy, Ahmed Yousaf, Susan Touma, Ahmed Mian, Nate RIvers, Nelson Velazquez, and John McSorley for their contributions to making Skinder possible. Additionally, we would like to thank BCANCER, reestheskin, skincancer.net, yumpu, icono.ulb.ac.be, emedicine, global skin atlas, meddean, danderm, Univesity of Iowa, hellenic derm atlas, atlasdermatologico, zope.dermis.net, and dermnet.nz for their permission for allowing our team to use images of melanoma and melanoma mimics for teaching purposes.
