About Rádio Charrua AM 1140 - FM 97.

At the end of the 1930s, radio was still a novelty in Rio Grande do Sul and in the country. There were only three stations operating in the capital and one in Pelotas. Installing a broadcaster in Uruguaiana seemed like an adventure. But Juan Izidro Cobelli, an Argentine tinker by profession, who had been living on the border for many years, was not satisfied with the loudspeaker service he had spread throughout the city. I wanted more. He intended to work with a vehicle that could reach the interior of the Municipality and the entire community. Thus, on September 20, 1936, using a 100 watt transmitter, purchased second-hand, a Telefunken microphone, now considered a historic gem, and a record player, Juan Cobelli put on the air the recording of "Tai" a of the great successes of Carmen Miranda, making the first broadcast of Rádio Charrua. A milestone in the history of radio broadcasting in Rio Grande do Sul, since it became the fifth broadcaster in the state, the second in the interior and the first in the western border.

On June 12, 1985, Charrua FM was founded. Currently, AM radio has a 5 kilowatt transmitter and a backup transmitter with 1000 watts, both imported and transistorized, link between studio-transmitter and AM / FM studios, and fully computerized recording.

With a varied program aimed at pleasing the public, Rádio Charrua maintains audience leadership in Uruguaiana. With a large number of listeners throughout its area of penetration, it has obtained the preference of local advertisers and major advertising agencies across the country. In addition to Uruguaiana, she is also heard in Alegrete, Itaqui, Barra do Quaraí, Quaraí, São Borja, São Luiz Gonzaga and more in the Province of Corrientes, in Argentina and northern Uruguay.

From a simple system of loudspeakers scattered around the city, at its birth, Radio Charrua surpassed the most optimistic dreams of its founder, Juan Izidro Cobelli, but it did not lose its most striking feature: the radio linked to the community interested in providing public service to its listeners. Respect for the advertiser and the listener. This is the quality commitment that CHARRUA offers to the market through its AM and FM stations, perfectly segmented offering leisure and serious information.
