How did it begin
When the hotel with the symbolic name Prague begins to disappear from the Prague horizon in January 2014, the professional and non-professional public know that this is a precedent. The demolition of a hotel built originally for Communist leaders and foreign government delegations will fully trigger interest in this type of construction, not far from Prague. The public may, for the first time since the fall of communism, become aware of the architectural, artistic and historical value of these buildings.
What is our goal?
The Scholastics Learning Platform has decided that it is important to begin to draw attention to this architecture and, in 2015, launched a series of tours and lectures with significant theorists, artists and architects who presented the uniqueness and often hidden beauty of these buildings. Gradually, some of these buildings began to disappear irretrievably, and it was necessary to think about how to keep this important part of our history for the public.
Details
The publication Brutal Prague presents extraordinary buildings from 1969 to 1989 together with important architectural figures such as Michaela Janečková, Pavel Karous, Petr Klíma, Rostislav Koryčánek, Petr Kučera, Adam Štěch and Vladimír 518. Ondřej Horák is the editor of the book. Vladimir 518 in the book will introduce an unforgettable object of the New Stage of the National Theater, the sculptor Pavel Karous, in the public space of the period of normalization. Petr Klíma will bring the architectural value of the Kotva and Máj business buildings. The buildings are photographed by photographers Tomáš Souček, Petr Polák, Filip Šlapal and BoysPlayNice artistic duo, who have devoted themselves to contemporary architecture in their work. The graphic studio OKOLO, which has made a number of important publications realized here and abroad, will give the book its final visual appearance. Just as for quality lyrics are important high quality authors, for high quality photos is again good quality paper. The Crowdfunding campaign should not only contribute to supporting the creation of texts, photos and graphics, but the largest part of the selected amount is invested in costly print production.
