About PICOS App

As part of the joint project DISTANCE, the clinical use case aims to equip former intensive care patients after a longer stay in the intensive care unit with a patient-oriented app, the so-called PICOS app, in order to improve their functional outcomes. The app is intended to help prevent and treat the so-called "Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS)", which often occurs after a long stay in intensive care units and includes a variety of physical, mental and emotional limitations that persist in the long term after discharge from the intensive care unit can stay. The PICOS App offers the user personalized evaluations to generate objective data so that the patient is regularly informed about their individual state of health. In addition, the PICOS app is intended to support its users, for example, in taking medication regularly, therapeutic measures and other planned follow-up examinations. Subject to the data usage and access regulations, the result data will be available for secondary data analysis and research purposes, so that the clinical conditions and treatment processes of this specific patient group can be optimized in the future using artificial intelligence.
Doctors will be able to instruct their patients and their relatives on their own mobile devices.
For the integration of patients, an appropriate specialist should give the doctors instructions on how to use the app (e.g. online workshop), so that they can familiarize their patients with the user interface. Before using the app independently
- Documented training courses demonstrate the traceability of app usage
- Patients have understood the processes that relate to contacts and contact persons (e.g. in the event of technical failure of the app, clinical deterioration, alarms, etc.) and
- Patients have understood the processes related to the transfer of non-personal data.
In addition to looking after the medical practices, part of the activities of the monitoring staff will be monitoring the PICOS app. This includes: data reporting, communication and exchange with IT and recording of faults.
