The museum founder Theodor Francksen had a large garden laid out more than 100 years ago where the four-lane street Am Stadtmuseum now directs traffic between the Lappan intersection and the horse market. The villas belonging to the garden used to be the home of Theodor Francksen, where he also presented his collection of furniture and objets d'art. Today they are owned by the city of Oldenburg and part of the city museum.
