About SMO Garten neu gesehen

The museum founder Theodor Francksen had a large garden laid out more than 100 years ago where the four-lane street Am Stadtmuseum now directs traffic between the Lappan intersection and the horse market. Like a park, the area extends to the ramparts. Hard to imagine, because today there is nothing reminiscent of English lawns, flower beds and green pergolas.
With this app the long forgotten garden comes to life again! Thanks to AR technology, details from the garden are visible where they used to be. Against the backdrop of today's Oldenburg, historical images from another time appear with the help of your smartphone, which give an impression of the approximately 3,000 square meter facility. Drawings, plans and photos from the collection of the city museum show not only what the garden looked like, but also how it was used.

The villas belonging to the garden used to be the home of Theodor Francksen, where he also presented his collection of furniture and objets d'art. Today they are owned by the city of Oldenburg and part of the city museum.

The development of the app was funded as part of the digital learning laboratories project with funds from the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research.
