This app teaches the Levels of Assistance (LoA) caregiving strategy – with the goal of improving the quality of life of both the caregiver and the elder with dementia. The Levels of Assistance (LoA) strategy is used to maintain the independence of the elder and minimize their disability.
If a caregiver provides more assistance than an elder needs to complete a task, over time the elder will likely appear to be more disabled than they actually are. Providing just enough assistance to complete an activity – but no more – maintains the elders abilities for as long as possible and minimizes the work required by a caregiver.
The goal of this caregiving strategy is to use the lowest level of assistance necessary to complete an activity, given a person’s actual limitations and strengths.
