The Mauritanian News Agency occupies a distinguished position in the national media scene, and represents the first source for official news and coverage of government activities. It is the only national media institution that broadcasts in the three languages Arabic, French and English. It publishes the two oldest and most important daily newspapers in the country, and it also has the oldest and widest network of correspondents in the country. During its nearly five-decade career, the Agency has gone through several stages and stations, and during the last three years it has witnessed a qualitative leap that included various structural, technical and editorial aspects, and enabled significant improvements in the work environment and the conditions of its staff.
In the structural field, the agency completed the preparation of a comprehensive strategy that keeps pace with the rapid developments of modern systems and technologies, and takes into account the various aspects of the media work requirements and developments.
In the field of news services, the agency has adopted the latest editing and publishing systems and has developed more new services such as live broadcasting services, publishing news and video reports via audiovisual media and social media platforms, in addition to its usual services via short text messages “SMS”, and its website ami.mr.
The agency has also created a specialized monthly publication called “People’s Magazine” and “Horizons” in French, which is concerned with monitoring and following up development files and highlighting projects under completion, through treatments that employ various types of journalists.
In the technical field, the agency sought to acquire and modernize production tools, broadcasting devices, and logistical support means. It also began digitizing its huge archive, and worked to restore its old building, modernize its offices at home, and modernize its means and equipment.
