Digital technologies enable innovative care and treatment concepts for outpatient medical care. With docdirekt, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Baden-Württemberg (KVBW) is the first Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians to start a telemedicine project. The docdirekt model project offers patients quality-assured telemedical access to medical care.
docdirekt was made possible by a change in the professional regulations by the State Medical Association (LÄK) of Baden-Württemberg. In doing so, she paved the way for the decision of the German Medical Association, which in 2018 lifted the ban on remote treatment that had been in force until then. Since then, doctors have been allowed to treat patients by phone or video without first contacting them personally.
The docdirekt model project was initially limited to the city of Stuttgart and the district of Tuttlingen. After a successful test phase, the resident doctors have now expanded their offer to the entire federal state of Baden-Württemberg.
The KVBW is responsible for organizing outpatient medical care in the state. It represents the approximately 23,000 resident doctors and psychotherapists in Baden-Württemberg.
