The Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil of 1988, promulgated on October 5, 1988, is the fundamental and supreme law in Brazil, serving as a parameter of validity for all other types of legislation, standing at the top of the legal system. It can be considered the seventh or eighth constitution of Brazil (depending on whether or not Constitutional Amendment 1 is considered as a constitutional text) and the sixth or seventh Brazilian constitution in a century of republic.
It was the Brazilian constitution that suffered the most amendments: 67 amendments plus 6 revision amendments.
