The Biofuel decision support system (BDSS) aims to inform potential biomass crop producers of the southeastern states about cost, productivity, and other information. The BDSS is being developed for several biofuel crops namely switchgrass, miscanthus, yellow poplar, willow, and pine. The system’s tools combine models of production and cost from growing biomass literature with market data to illustrate the financial analysis of growing alternative feedstock crops at users’ approximate location.
The application allows users to manipulate input variables (e.g. land area, feed crop of choice) to simulate and analyze cost and income in spatially explicit fashion under various decision scenarios and features.
