Byzantine spiritual writer, Blessed John Moschus, at the end of VI-th century, together with his pupil Sophronius (future Patriarch of Jerusalem) made a great trip to the monasteries of the Middle East. Beating almost all the famous Palestinian and Syrian monastery, they visited Egypt, penetrated as far south as the glorious Thebaid and even distant Oasis, all peering into the ascetic life and her love studying. Information collected by them amounted to a book, called "Spiritual Meadow."
