Through this guide and this route you can learn the history of the old pilgrim hospitals of Astorga. The city of Astorga, the crossroads of the two main roads to Santiago, the so-called French Way and the one they call the Vía de la Plata coming from the south, was the second city with the highest number of hospitals in the first centuries of the pilgrimage to Santiago . Today the vast majority of them have disappeared, leaving only a testimony of their important work. This app aims to make these places known and perpetuate them in the memory of its people and visitors. This route is also a tribute to the trade guilds since they were the main owners and maintainers of this service that, throughout the Middle Ages, provided sustenance and care for pilgrims from all over Europe on the Camino de Santiago. Thanks to his efforts, Astorga was present in the history of Camino throughout the centuries.
