How the application works:
The patient spells out the conceived word to the Caregiver. Each letter is selected in three steps, while the Patient is shown three screens in sequence with the letters of the alphabet.
In the first two screens, the Patient with his eyes indicates the areas in which the desired letter is located.
In the third screen, indicates the desired letter.
The caregiver’s task is to determine the direction of the patient’s gaze and click on the desired area or letter.
The application voices the caregiver the result of the selection, which allows you to work "blindly" without turning the screen to yourself. When the desired letter is found, the caretaker touches the set area
words (at the bottom of the 3rd screen) and the selected letter is remembered.
The procedure for communication.
- The caregiver agrees with the Patient about the signal by which the Patient
will initiate contact (for example, a close look at the tablet lying near the patient’s bed is always in the same place)
- The caregiver agrees with the patient about the signal system when choosing a row on
the first screen of the application, when it’s still difficult to determine by the look where the Patient is pointing (for example, the choice of the top row can be indicated by a rise
eye up, on top of the tablet; the choice of the middle row with a direct look in front of you; selection of the bottom row - by “covering” the eyes).
- On the second and third screens in the signal system, the need disappears, since the direction of movement of the patient’s eyes is clearly enough readable. The patient can only fix his gaze on one of the positions so that the caregiver can understand it
select and click on the appropriate area of the screen.
- It is also important to agree with the patient about the signal “incorrectly” (if for some reason the Caregiver incorrectly detected the patient's signal - for example, a direct look into the eyes of the caregiver).
Usually a few first letters are enough to define a word.
After guessing the word, the “Reset” button is pressed and the process is repeated for
the next word.
