About Evangelio según San Juan

In the New Testament of the Bible four gospels are contemplated, called canonical gospels and recognized as part of the Revelation by the different Christian confessions. They are known by the name of their authors: Mateo, Marcos, Lucas and Juan.

San Juan

He was from Bethsaida, son of Zebedee and brother of James, the eldest. He had been a disciple of John the Baptist and, at his invitation, began to follow Jesus. But he followed it definitely after the miraculous catch. He is called the beloved disciple of Jesus.

His purpose in writing the gospel was to counteract the heresies denied by the divinity of Christ. From the prologue to the end, everything converges on this: Jesus is the Son of God. San Juan narrates many episodes lightly.

According to Christian tradition, John the Evangelist was, along with his brother Saint James the Apostle, one of the first apostles of Christ. Jesus called James and John Boanerges ("sons of thunder") because of his impetuous nature, which is revealed in some events reported in the other Gospels (St. Mark, 9:38, and St. Luke, 9:54).

After the resurrection of Jesus, St. John the Evangelist occupied a relevant position among the disciples.
