Jopijelppari is a completely new type of mobile application, the purpose of which is to support the independence of a group that needs special support in everyday life and to promote their participation in working life. The application has been developed in co-operation with the customers of the Service Foundation for the Mentally Handicapped and the people working there within the framework of the Place Open program.
The application contains three elements, in the first of which the user builds a profile describing himself, the second contains a smart calendar and the third has been developed to support working life both in the job search and in the workplace.
In their own profile, the user can store relevant information about themselves, which is useful in all situations when moving outside the home. In addition, the profile can be used to communicate about your own personality with an easy-to-use and fun personality profile. Finally, the profile still includes the ability to attach video clips about yourself and your strengths that can be presented from your own device.
The calendar application is designed to make the user's everyday life easier. For example, for a supported resident, the app brings more independence by replacing a variety of ways to remember and consider weekly routines or one-time events. The app reduces the workload of assistants and increases the user’s sense of influence and care for their own lives. The calendar makes it easy to program various events and reminds and encourages you to react to them.
The target group of the application also has special requirements in working life and, as in other sections, the functions are designed to support the user's independence and increase the understanding of their own skills and strengths. You can upload videos of yourself performing various tasks, which can then be viewed by, for example, the following employers and supervisors. In the videos, supervisors can also tell about the user's success in the workplace and highlight his or her strengths in a very concrete way. The working life section finally includes a new kind of positive CV, which illustrates the user's work history and core competencies with various graphic solutions.
The application utilizes image, sound and text in all its parts of communication. Various images and symbols have been produced for the application to help illustrate the user’s features as well as work experience and can be utilized in all sections and functions of the application.
The user experience of the application is designed so that for the best result, the content is produced with the support of an assistant, but after that the user himself begins to control more and more of its use. The Working Life section can be seen as the first version of a longer-term development plan aimed at building new, more equal tools to support the working lives of people at a disadvantage in the labor market and, above all, recruitment.
In addition to the Developmental Disabilities Service Foundation, the development partners of the application are the Developmental Disabilities Association and Turku University of Applied Sciences, which is responsible for its technical implementation.
