The LICIT laboratory (Bron-IFSTTAR) is collaborating with INSA Lyon/Inria CITI Agora and Orange telecommunications to perform accurate travel demand estimation in Lyon area by means of Mobile Traffic data and GPS traces.
Orange is currently performing a massive mobile phone data collection (calls, SMS, etc.) in the Grand Lyon area. The collection will be carried out until the end of November.
In order to validate our algorithms, we need "ground-truth" information on users' mobility and we kindly ask your help for that.
In particular, we aim at collecting a small-scale dataset of GPS traces in Lyon by using a mobile phone GPS tracking app.
GPS data are supposed to provide more precise information on users' movements and can be considered as a reliable approximation of actual users' trajectories.
If you are an Orange Android mobile customer, you can provide us an inestimable help in participating to this GPS data collection.
We propose you to install this lightweight Android app, a customized version of the open-source GPSLogger app (http://code.mendhak.com/gpslogger/), to track and share with LICIT information on your mobility.
GPSLogger is a popular open source app for GPS tracking on Android devices, which has been developed according to low-battery usage requirements
We remark that you can decide when/whether to be tracked, by turning on/off the application whenever you like.
It would be extremely precious to us if you can provide GPS logs of your mobility in the period November-December.
The more you move around in Lyon (by means of different transportation means) the more precious you will be to us.
We apologize for a little battery consumption our app can generate. However, that should not be dramatic!
