A one stop knowledge center for adolescent boys and young men to gain information and make informed choices about family planning, contraception and sexual and reproductive health of males.
Often, women bear the primary and exclusive responsibility for preventing pregnancy. This unequal burden stems from broad social narratives surrounding family planning and use of contraception. The unequal distribution of responsibilities reinforces gender inequality.
To understand the barriers to male engagement in contraceptive use, ARTH has come up with a digital solution to overcome information barriers. The Tarun app addresses sexual and reproductive needs of young men across different life stages - adolescents, newly married, growing their families as per a plan. The app includes audio, visual and reading material related to available methods of contraception, pregnancy care, safe abortion and prevention of HIV.
About the organization: Action Research and Training for Health (ARTH) has been working in Rajasthan in the field of rural healthcare, since 1997. The organization recognizes the link between social behavior and health, and lays emphasis on understanding beliefs, perceptions and values that influence a community’s health-seeking behavior. In addition to the tangible benefit of service to the population, an active field service program allows ARTH to test innovative ideas, in a manner that is sensitive to prevailing social, economic and gender constraints and respects human rights.
