i.e Cheriyal Scroll Painting & Nirmal Paintings Nirmal Toys. Since time immemorial, this art was born in the hands of our Telangana region Nakhas People and practiced & maintained by our ancestors and gifted to us in the form of Inheritance. Our people are now in crucial and critical poor situation for their survival and looking for the help from the Governments for enrichment and dedicated to maintain its real legacy and glory of the Nakhas Art.
The past Governments have neglected our Nakhas community like anything, resulting, most of our people are doing other works like tailoring, craft works, mechanics..etc. Most of the artists are converting into small and daily-wise workers for earning their food and shelter and running their families with much difficulty.
Due to a huge negligence of earlier Governments, this world renowned art is now at critical and vanishing stage. We would like to say that, the Nakashi art is an art form that is practiced by our people in Cheriyal of Warangal
district in the state of Telangana. Which are basically scrolls of narratives from mythology and folklore and used in storytelling. Nakashi art usually contain bright hues (most primary colors) with a predominance of red in
the background. The themes and stories are familiar - drawn from the storehouse of ancient literary and folk
traditions. Cheriyal Scroll Painting is a stylized version of Nakashi art, rich in the local motifs peculiar to the Telangana. Now this art is mainly practiced at present in Hyderabad. The scrolls are painted in a narrative format, much like a film roll or a comic strip, depicting stories from Indian mythology, and intimately tied to the shorter stories from the Puranas and Epics. Earlier, these paintings were prevalent across Andhra, as also various other parts of the country, albeit flavoured with their distinct styles and other local
peculiarities dictated by the local customs and traditions. In the same way, Cheriyal scrolls are also popular across Telangana in earlier times, though with the advent of television, cinemas and computers it has been fenced into its last outpost, the Cheriyal village. The Cheriyal paintings were and continue to be a
distinctly local invention, peculiar to the Telangana region, drawing mainly on local traditions. It can safely be said that the local temple art traditions and the Kalamkari tradition across Telangana
in particular, and the graphic historyart traditions of the Deccan and South India in general were the
major influences that shaped and guided the art of scroll paintings. However, it should also be remembered that the sphere of activity, subject and artistic idiom of every scroll painting including that of Cheriyal is peculiar and confined to the village or habitment.
