Born in 2011 with the aim of emphasizing the social value of books as a key element of personal, cultural and civil growth, Il Maggio dei Libri is a national campaign that invites you to bring books and reading also in contexts other than traditional ones, to intercept those who usually do not read but who can be curious if stimulated in the right way.
Everyone can contribute by organizing initiatives that take place between April 23 and May 31 and recording them in the campaign database on the official website.
In its mission, the May of Books involves local authorities, schools, libraries, bookshops, festivals, publishers, cultural associations and the most diverse public and private subjects in a widespread way. In Italy but not only: every year, in fact, the campaign crosses national borders, joining some Italian schools abroad in the common passion for reading.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, appointments took place during the editions in: Argentina (Buenos Aires and Morón), Belgium (Liège and the UNESCO site Blegny-Mine), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Canada (Toronto), Croatia (Albona and Zara), France (Lyon and Paris), Germany (Berlin), Greece (Athens), Peru (Lima), Romania (Bucharest), Spain (Barcelona), Switzerland (Lugano and Poschiavo) and Turkey (Izmir).
