“How much confusion! I find it hard to concentrate! " ... how many times do we happen to think that, isn't it?
Now we can check how much we are able to concentrate in different situations, for example when there is silence around us, or when a noise disturbs us while we are busy with a task, and we can do all this simply by playing with the iPad!
CoEN - Cognitive Effort in Noise is an App developed by a team of psychologists, audiologists and engineers of the University of Padua that allows you to evaluate memory, attention and other cognitive skills, to analyze how much school-age children are able to concentrate while performing a task under different listening conditions (quiet or noise).
Presented in the form of an interactive game and with a clear, fun and colorful interface, the CoEN App offers a series of neuropsychological tests developed and validated for children.
The game is divided into six parts, each corresponding to a test: in the first two it will be played with memory and with sequences of numbers, in the third part it will be the turn of reading together some sentences and playing with words, in the fourth and fifth game there will be many colorful drawings and the mission will be to use your memory to recognize and search for some images, while in the last part you will have to be super fast to press buttons on the right or left of the screen !!
So many things, right? But don't worry: the games will be pleasant and can be interrupted at any time, but above all: it's not like at school, here there are no grades !!
And that's not all! Each test will be presented as the stage of an imaginary journey to discover a fantasy city of which the child, at the end of the game, will be able to discover the name.
"Quiety" and "Noisy", two very nice little robots, will accompany the child throughout the journey, guiding him from the first to the last screen in carrying out each individual test, with clear instructions and simple examples.
And now some little tips for educators and clinicians: children could play with CoEN in two different environmental conditions, both in silence and in noisy situations. You can choose which condition to start from, by selecting Quiety / Noisy, and which games to play for the child, by selecting the age (the games are in fact different for different ages). The noise can be sent through headphones that the child can wear while playing with CoEN. Indeed, it is precisely for children that an inadequate listening condition is most likely to represent an obstacle to learning, for example in the context of a particularly noisy class. Comparing the results obtained using the App in the two conditions makes it possible and simple to assess the impact of noise on the child's concentration and cognitive performance.
What do you say… are we ready to play and find out which cities will Quiety and Noisy take us to?
