The "SardegnaSentieri" app is a digital map of Sardinia's trails, offering a vast network of hiking trails, cycling and equestrian itineraries in the region. The current network includes over 2,000 kilometers of trails, with an expansion plan to reach over 3,000 kilometers by 2026.
The digital map also includes the "paths of Sardinia" managed by the Regional Tourism Department, offering an essential reference point for enthusiasts of excursions and trekking in Sardinia.
The app provides several features, some of which are premium features offered by the Region. These features allow users to explore trails, access technical information, download offline maps, navigate along routes, share stages on social media and save favorite routes.
The app is especially useful with geolocation enabled, allowing users to view their location on maps as they explore trails. All the app's features are free, financed by the Region through the Forestas Regional Agency.
The digital map is created with a dedicated cartographic style, which describes the physical and natural characteristics of the territory with details such as contour lines, vegetation, buildings and transport network. The data comes from public sources and OpenStreetMap.
The app also provides information on the accuracy of the data and warns users about possible inaccuracies due to environmental changes not yet recorded in the database. Users can report these inaccuracies through the app.
