The Media and Communications Commission was established in Iraq in June 2004, and is the first of its kind in the Middle East in terms of overlapping regulation between media and communications, and it is an independent body not linked to any government agency. The Media and Communications Commission in Iraq is the first of its kind in the Middle East, with regard to establishing standards for the overlapping regulation of the media and communications sectors and reforming them, since the separation between the two sectors has become an obstacle to their growth and development. It is an independent body that is not linked to any government agency according to the Iraqi constitution. Its mission is to regulate and develop media and communications in Iraq within modern international standards.
