About الظلوم

the oppressor
Salim Khalil Naccache
Lubna (to herself): Poor, it seems that he was rich and became poor.

Minister: Perhaps it was; Time brings wonders, and a person should not entrust it, but he should always beware of his cunning and treachery. How rich became poor! How rich and mighty you have become!”

Injustice does not last no matter how much tyranny increases, its end is inevitable, even if it is prolonged. This is the message conveyed to us by the great Lebanese writer “Salim al-Naqqash” in this exciting dramatic play with its five chapters, which he wrote in a prose style interspersed with many poetic verses, especially in situations of enthusiasm and emotions. The “Naqqash” here tells the story of the unjust prince “Iskander” who fell in love with “Asma”; The poor orphan girl, and wanted to marry her, was indifferent to his father, the just king, who strongly opposed this decision. This was not the only obstacle. Rather, the unjust prince had to influence the girl’s heart to get rid of Selim; The brave boy, whom Asma loved from a young age, unjustly imprisoned him and threatened to kill him if he did not relinquish his love for her. Will the unjust prince get his money in the end? Will cruelty and injustice prevail over love? This play is one of the most famous written by Selim Al-Naqqash in the late nineteenth century, and once it was shown in Egypt, it angered Khedive Ismail and ordered it to be stopped.
