SAFMC Release Evaluation is a mobile data collection tool created in collaboration with fishermen, scientists, data and fishery managers, and technology experts to allow recreational and commercial fishermen to voluntarily collect information on scamp grouper they release. The app is the first data collection tool developed for the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council’s Citizen Science Program. The goal of the Citizen Science Program is to support projects that meet the science standards of the program and can help fill data gaps and supplement existing data collection efforts. Data collected using the app may be considered for use in management and stock assessments and will help test the use of citizen science approaches for these types of data collection efforts.
