THE FALL OF ARKONE - the subject is the ruin and destruction of the advanced and rich area of ​​the island of Rugen / Rujan, which is today marked as the northernmost point of Germany, in the Baltic, near the coast of Denmark and which, being pagan and inhabited by Western Slavs (Wends), disappeared in the Crusades. a war undertaken in the second half of the twelfth century by the Danes under King Waldemar and Bishop Absalon and by the Saxons under King Henry. On that occasion, the temples dedicated to the gods Svetovid, Rujevit, Porevita, Poren, Crnoglav, Pizamara, Baba were destroyed, after which the Slavic population was forcibly Christianized.
We follow the story of these events - but also the life of the Slavs from the 7th to the end of the 12th century - through the testimonies of chroniclers and travel writers of Frankish, German, Icelandic, Danish, Jewish and Arab origin:
