About Radargram

Radargram is a new precipitation app. Radargram shows precipitation radars individually. This has 3 advantages: 1. the radar images update faster, 2. the resolution of the images is many times higher and 3. the viewing height of the radar is lower and therefore more accurate. These 3 advantages ensure that 1. you are informed more quickly when (heavy) showers occur, 2. see more detail of the precipitation, and 3. do not miss precipitation at low altitude.

Every country has a network of precipitation radars. The Netherlands has 2. Germany has 17, etc. By combining precipitation radar images, a composite radar image is created. The largest composite precipitation radar is the European precipitation radar (found in this app). Dozens of radars work together to create 1 precipitation image for all of Europe. The Netherlands also creates a composite radar image. The Netherlands combines the precipitation radar of Den Helder with that of Herwijnen. This creates a virtually noise-free radar image for the whole of the Netherlands. The big disadvantage, however, is that these images are not accurate. They look at precipitation at an altitude of 1500 meters, which means that they miss precipitation at low altitudes. The resolution of a composite radar image is also less good than an individual radar image (4x less sharp). The last drawback is the slow update rate of a composite radar image. Radargram therefore shows all precipitation radars separately. This allows you to see precipitation better, faster and we do not miss a drop.

The climate is changing. Precipitation becomes more extreme. This requires new innovative applications for precipitation radar. Radargram develops innovative applications when it comes to precipitation. The Radargram app automatically selects the rainfall radar near you. You can also manually select a rainfall radar by either clicking the radar locations on the map or clicking your current location. Some locations are covered by even 3 different precipitation radars. Preferably choose a radar in your area (or let the app choose automatically). If you live near a radar, choose a radar that is slightly further away. Close to the radar a lot of noise can arise due to the low viewing height.
