About SnailSnap

The SnailSnap app, you can observations of the ordinary garden snail (Cepaea nemoralis) pass to the Cepaea research team Naturalis and EIS. We examine how the different color forms are spread by the Netherlands and whether the habitat and other factors such as urbanization and the current climate that influence. In addition, we wish to compare the new observations with historical data in order to determine whether color forms have changed significantly, and thereby adapted to the changing environment.
To be part of scientific research by sharing your observations is very easy. Using our app "SnailSnap" you of any ordinary garden snail that you see take a picture. We are looking for as many observations; So pictures of as many snails (one photo per snail) from as many different locations: from city to countryside and woodland to heath. If your GPS is the exact location of each snail is automatically saved to the photo. This saved location is linked to the habitat type. Snail color variation is subsequently found by the team. In this way it can be made transparent or colored shapes are dominant in specific habitat types. All your observations may, if desired, be passed anonymously without waarneming.nl account.
