Boo helps children to practice the language sounds the child needs to become better at. He is meant to attract spontaneous imitation and repetition of Swedish language sounds and simple syllables. At the same time, he strengthens the healthy awareness of what happens in the mouth when sounding, by clearly showing how to make the sounds. (This is called phonological awareness and is documented important for reading and writing learning.)
The app is developed by a legitimate speech therapist. Kids can use the app themselves or with an adult. By having the child use multiple senses simultaneously to imitate and repeat, it becomes easier to overcome obstacles and learn to sound right.
Who can Boo help?
The app is developed for children between 3 and about 6 years who have, or should have, contact with speech therapist or speech educator due to difficulties with pronunciation. The app helps and motivates children to:
• practice on one or more individual language sounds
• practice distinguishing between voiced or voiceless consonants
• practice putting together sounds and harmonizing them into simple syllables, or
• practice the connection between the letters and their corresponding language sounds in early reading.
Boo can be a springboard for better pronunciation and reading learning!
Boo can also be of help to anyone who is learning Swedish, such as newly arrived children or adults.
NOTE - This is a free trial version with only the sounds P B A E and limited functionality. Feel free to download this one and try it!
If the child spontaneously imitates Boo and needs to practice more sounds and syllables, then there is the full version with the consonants P B T D K G S F V M N L R, all Swedish vocals and more features , including helpful tips from the speech therapist.

Boo is developed on the basis of logopedic and therapeutic experience with children with verbal dyspraxia or phonological language disorder. The app is tested by 8 children aged 3-6 years who attend a speech therapist. The tests have shown great motivation for homework and spontaneous repetition of sounds in a way that proved difficult before.
The app is developed and designed to be used on tablet as it is easier to handle for small child fingers. However, it works well technically on mobile screens as well.
