About Orange Days

Violence against women and girls is one of the most common human rights violations worldwide. In 1991, the Women's Global Leadership Institute launched the 16 days of activism against gender violence campaign. UN Women picked up the ball in 2008 under the motto Orange The World.
Year after year, from November 25th to December 10th, women around the world have been drawing attention to the problem and its devastating effects with orange campaigns. The time period was deliberately chosen: The United Nations General Assembly has declared November 25th as the day for the elimination of violence against women. December 10th was declared Human Rights Day by the United Nations.

In order to save electricity and energy this year, there will be no orange lighting of buildings, places and more initiated by us. As one contribution among others, we have decided on this form of jointly pointing out this unspeakable worldwide problem.
In Cologne, the two Cologne Zonta Clubs initiated the first lighting campaign on November 25th in 2019 under the motto "Orange Your City". Since 2020, the call and the actions have been coordinated by the Office for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the City of Cologne, in cooperation with the Cologne Zonta Clubs, the Cologne Soroptimists and the members of the working group "Against Violence Against Women".

The central Cologne Orange Days website https://orangedays-koeln.de/ of the city of Cologne provides an overview of all activities and participants. You can also register YOUR actions there.
