The AusGeochem FieldApp is designed to work seamlessly with the AusGeochem platform (a diverse geochemistry focused platform allowing users to easily access, share and use georeferenced data produced by Australian geochemistry laboratories), instantly displaying the sample metadata into the platform. Data collectors/contributors can record georeferenced sample locations, elevation, lithology, sampling method, and sample type directly into the AusGeochem platform while in the field. The AusGeochem FieldApp also allows the capture/upload of pictures and notes of your sampling location, no more worry needed on waterproofing field notebooks! The built in picture capability supports multi-picture captions, from sampling location to hand sample photos, for each sample. We know when working in Australia, cellular service can be spotty to non-existent, therefore, the FieldApp works can function in either online and offline environments.
The AusGeochem platform was developed to promote a more efficient and transparent geochemistry data ecosystem. Developed by a consortium of Australian university research laboratories known as the AuScope Geochemistry Network and in partnership with Lithodat Pty Ltd, the platform was created to simultaneously serve as a geosample registry, a geochemistry data repository and an active research tool. With the ability to readily upload sample metadata (from directly within the platform accessed on your personal computer or straight from the field while using the AusGeochem FieldApp) as well as associated geochemistry analytical data, the platform aims to ensure the preservation and re-utilisation of not just the geochemical datasets, but also the sample materials, saving funding agencies, institutions and laboratories significant resources by preventing unnecessary duplication of efforts.
