Shaanan College, the Religious Academic College of Education, was established in 1951 by the late Dr. Yechiel Ben Nun, as a bi-annual teacher and teacher training seminary for religious education in Haifa and the north. There are also courses in various disciplines in education and training.
In the second half of the 1990s, an increased academic process began, and in 2001 (2001), the College received full academic recognition from the Council for Higher Education in all fields and specializations. In 2004 (2004), the College moved to the permanent campus in Kiryat Shmuel, Haifa.
The College offers courses in a variety of courses: Horticulture (age 6-0), Primary School teachers and teachers, Secondary School teachers and teachers and Special Education teachers.

The College maintains a path of excellence to which students with high academic achievement and social leadership skills are accepted. In addition, there is a training program for Ethiopian students to facilitate and strengthen their integration into Israeli society. The program includes empowerment and personal accompaniment when students are also eligible for a full scholarship for all school years as well as residence in dormitories.
In the college there is a continuation studies center where senior teachers complete their academic degrees, academics study for a teaching certificate and practice teachers who extend their qualification to another discipline or age range. There are also various courses, such as a teacher training course, new teacher training courses, family life education and professional development courses in a variety of fields.
In addition, the College holds teacher training courses for male graduates who complete their undergraduate studies.
The College encourages academic research, the products of which are presented in academic journals in Israel and abroad. The College publishes books by academic staff.
