It goes through [Open Food Facts - World] public database to see if anyone has already post the same barcode information there - [https://world.openfoodfacts.org/] and get the corresponding information back so you do not need to re-type everything again and again.
You can also download the OpenFoodFacts app to insert those food information you often buy to the public database.
