The PMMD application is a research tool supporting self-monitoring of health dedicated to people experiencing various mental problems. The study is conducted by the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw.
Experiences from other countries indicate that smartphones and mobile applications can be a valuable solution supporting coordinated and personalized care of a patient with various mental problems. In order to address these needs in Poland, this prototype application for monitoring general activity dedicated to people with various mental disorders has been developed. This application is a research tool that records data in real time to determine potential relationships between activity indicators (i.e. connection statistics, mobility, activity) and the mental state of people experiencing various mental problems. The PMMD application is to ultimately support care between traditional specialist visits by, among others warning about the likelihood of health deterioration being started, implementation of initial measures to improve it, as well as indicating places where help can be obtained. Application developers assume that for the final product to be reliable, effective and acceptable to a wide range of recipients, it must be created in close cooperation with users and be adapted to their preferences and expectations. The goal is not to create another commercial product of unknown effectiveness and questionable usefulness, but an effective tool that will be able to realistically and in the long term support the care and treatment of patients with mental disorders. Therefore, this application is free and made available to anyone interested, feedback is welcome. The results of the study will be used to create the final version of a personalized application dedicated to people struggling with various mental problems.
Information about the PMMD application:
For proper operation, the application requires: a smartphone with Android or iOS, internet access (to transfer data to the server), access to GPS location (to obtain information about the user's mobility). These data are collected anonymously (identification by means of an ID automatically given during installation) and are analyzed using machine learning techniques. You also have permanent access to statistics on your daily physical activity and mobility (i.e. walking, running, cycling, driving a car).
The application has a relaxation module containing mandalas for coloring, relaxation workouts and relaxing music. The application also contains modules helpful in self-monitoring of health, i.e. drug reminders, validated questionnaires for periodic assessment of depression and anxiety symptoms. An important element of the application is also the possibility of completing the survey on a daily basis, in which you can assess your well-being in various aspects (mood, activity level, stress level, sleep and general feelings of health). On the basis of the data entered by you, feedback is generated and a chart of mood changes is created, to which you have permanent access. The application also indicates contact details (nationwide telephones and stationary outlets in Warsaw), where you can get specialist help.
End of use of the application, data confidentiality
All information collected in this survey will be kept confidential to the extent specified by law. All analyzes will be conducted on anonymized data, based on the ID number. The estimated duration of the entire research project is 2 years. Resignation from using the application is possible at any time, just uninstall the application in accordance with the phone's standards, e.g. by moving it to the "Trash".
