Combating Food Waste, One Restaurant at a time.
On one side an estimated 3.5 million tonnes of food gets wasted every day around the World. On the other, there are hundreds of millions of people who struggle to find themselves a meal a day. As a result, more than 25,000 people lose their lives every day (9 million people in a year).
Through this platform, we as high school students aim to bridge this gap prevalent in our world. DonateAPlate connects organizations that possess excess/perishing food on a regular basis (such as restaurants and event management firms) to NGO’s for the donation of this food to the under-privileged and other people in need.
A donor can register and add a list of food items that wants to donate through the mobile app. NGO’s can request to pick up food from any donor that has listed the items via the mobile app, depending on proximity, points, and type/quantity of food. The donor can then accept the request and hand over the requested food to the person coming to pick it up.
