English–Romanian Dictionary

English–Romanian Dictionary is simple, easy to use, and comprehensive.
It contains over half a million words – basic vocabulary, proper nouns, and technical terms from fields such as engineering, science, and medicine.

You can translate from English to Romanian and from Romanian to English (change direction by clicking the flags button on the left of the search field).
The database is stored locally on your device (phone, tablet, or TV), so no Internet connection is required – it works completely offline.

Clicking a result lets you hear the pronunciation with your device’s TTS voice (configurable in Settings).
A long click or the menu button opens a context menu with options such as:
- Add to My Vocabulary
- Pronounce the English part
- Spell the word aloud
- Copy the result to the clipboard

You can also search words by voice in both English and Romanian.
Searched words can optionally be saved in a log.

Lexical resources
The context menu also gives access to rich lexical resources:
- Phonetic transcriptions (IPA and Arpabet)
- English definitions
- Synonyms, antonyms, homophones
- Hypernyms, hyponyms, rhymes
- Frequent followers and predecessors
- Word frequency (per million)

These resources are powered by the Datamuse API (datamuse.com) and require an Internet connection.
This means the app can also serve as a thesaurus.

My Vocabulary module
This module allows you to save words and explanations into a personal database.
From the context menu, choose Add to My Vocabulary to insert a word into an existing section or create a new one.

In the My Vocabulary window you can:
- View results by section
- Add, edit, or delete individual records or entire sections
- Export or import sections
- Import predefined sections such as Animals, Colors, or Tools

Irregular Verbs module
Here you can browse irregular verb lists or solve quizzes.
Tests can be customized by choosing which forms to fill in.
After each test, you receive a grade and can view statistics such as:
- Last grades
- Average of all grades
- Average of the last five grades

Android TV version
Since version 4.0 (January 2017), this dictionary is also available for Android TV.
It is optimized for D-pad navigation (four arrows + Enter).
All modules and options are available, so you can enjoy the dictionary on a big screen using only a remote control.

On Android TV, the app is considered premium – no ads are displayed.
This was the first dictionary compatible with Android TV.

Settings options
You can customize many behaviors in Settings:
- Search mode: all occurrences or full words only
- Preferred English voice variant (British, American, Indian, etc.)
- Keep screen awake
- Separator between word and explanation: new line, dash, hyphen, or vertical bar
- Enable/disable sounds for events
- Shake device to start a new search
- Choose text size
- Force portrait orientation

Premium version
The Premium version removes ads for a smoother experience.
To upgrade, open the main menu and choose Premium version.
A small one-time payment unlocks Premium forever, even after reinstalling the app.
The paid version is available on all devices signed in with the same Google account.
