Kabir or Bhagat Kabir was a 15th century Indian mystic poet and saint. He was the promoter of the poetry of the Gyanashrayi-Nirgun branch in the devotional era of Hindi literature. His compositions influenced the Bhakti movement of the Hindi state to a deep level. His writing is also found in the Adi Granth of Sikhs.

He was secular, not believing in Hinduism and Islam. He condemned social evils, rituals, superstitions and severely criticized social evils. During his lifetime both Hindus and Muslims threatened him for his views.

The religious sect called Kabir Panth are followers of his teachings.
