R.K. Sreerangammal Kalvi Nilayam was established in June 1953 by Dr. R.K. Shanmukham Chettiar, the First Finance Minister of Free India and an illustrious economist of International repute, along with his three brothers Sri. R.K. Venkatachalam Chettiar, Sri. R.K.Ramakrishnan Chettiar and Sri. R.K. Kandaswamy Chettiar in the fond memory of their mother.
Started as a High School in 1953 and situated in a covetable locality of the city of Coimbatore, it rose to the stature of a full fledged Higher Secondary School in 1981 and continues to serve the academic needs of the student population in and around Coimbatore.
The management introduce English Medium stream from 1990 on wards and at present parallel English Medium are there from start to finish. Tamil and Hindi are offered as first languages in the Secondary level and Tamil, French and Hindi are the first languages at Higher Secondary level.
The School also runs a Cricket Academy with a NIS qualified Cricket Coach.
