Then he went to Damascus, read the Qur’an, and heard a lot of hadith from his father, from Abu al-Makarim Ibn Hilal, and from Abu al-Maali bin Saber and others. Then he went to Baghdad with his cousin, Al-Hafiz Abd Al-Ghani, and heard from its scholars, then returned to Damascus. It was an argument in the Hanbali school.
