The bicycle lockers can cycle safely and easily stored. In the vault a possibility of charging electric bicycles is also available. The uniqueness of the project is that through an app on a smartphone, travelers can reserve a place for their bikes and open the safe. The payment post goes through the app. This is the first trial in the Netherlands that allows storing the bike at bus stops in this way.
Province of Friesland wants this bike lockers encourage the combination of cycling and public transport. Commuters with a luxurious bike can store their bicycle in a safe which is well protected from weather and theft. By facilitating the use of the electric bicycle, public transport can also serve travelers who live a little further away from a stop. The first test starts in Holwerd and Drachten.
