The novel Midaq Alley is one of the most famous literary novels written by Naguib Mahfouz. As for Midaq Alley, it is part of a place located in one of the governorates of Egypt. Mahfouz began his novel by describing and conveying the image of that place as it is. We find him describing the alley with its houses, the nature of the people who live in it, and all its shops, in addition to the feeling of boredom and the monotony of life there, as is the custom of life for Egyptians in similar popular areas. The heroine of the novel Midaq Alley is Hamida, a young woman in the prime of her youth. She is the main pillar of the novel. She was raised and grew up by her mother’s landlady, who took care of her. Hamida was certain that she had fallen into the dark circle of life. This alley in which she lives, and this vileness and filth that fills the place, was... Among the things that ignited within her a resentment for the alley and for her life: Because she believes that a girl like her has a place in palaces and luxurious homes, and she must wear the most beautiful, elegant dresses and sparkling jewelry, so she believes that she deserves a luxurious life.
