Discover the hidden gems of Czech cinematography!
The Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, i.e. FAMU, celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding in 2022. Over the seven decades of its existence, more than 15,000 student films have been created at FAMU, which is the fifth oldest film school in the world. These are shorter or longer exercises through which students of individual departments learn to deal with film language. The films of our students are very original, novel, always responding to current events, looking for new forms and means of expression.
We wanted to give the opportunity to all interested people from the general and professional public to get a glimpse of what, how and why FAMU is being created. Therefore, in addition to the films themselves, we also publish videos on our portal with FAMU pedagogues who explain the essence of the individual exercises, because otherwise the films might not make sense to you or, on the contrary, you would not fully enjoy what the students created from the school assignment.
What you will love about FAMU Films:
- You will discover gems from Czech film history (forgotten student films by famous authors, such as Miloš Forman, Věra Chytilová, Jiří Menzel or Helena Třeštíková)
- But we will also offer you successful films of current students that travel to festivals (films by Daria Kashcheeva, Olma Omerza, Diana Cam Van Nguyen, Tereza Nvotová)
- You can save movies to your favorites in your profile and come back to them after a while.
- For each film, you will find information about its crew as well as the year and type of exercise under which the film was created.
- At least 5 new movies are added every week
- You can also regularly look forward to lecture introductions with FAMU pedagogues
FAMU Films membership is a monthly or annual subscription, which you can cancel at any time in your profile and, if necessary, renew it again after a longer period of time.
