About Quake Viz

Quake Viz is a 3D Earthquake Visualization using the United States GeoJSON Feeds.

The visualization shows earthquakes from 4 different time settings: 1 Hour, 24 Hours, 7 Days, and 30 Days.

Clicking on an earthquake from the list will rotate the camera to the location and center it on the screen.

Earthquake magnitude is represented visually from green (low mag.) to red (high mag.)

There are also different globe textures you can cycle through. The simulation globe features an old weather pattern on rotation. The physical globe removes the weather pattern and shows the physical image of the world. The political globe shows the country boundaries. Lastly, the tectonic globe shows the political borders as well as the tectonic border plates.

I have built this with React.js and Three.js. My inspiration came while travelling in Thailand. I had met a warm hearted Nepalese man by the name of Mukti Bista who lived in Banepa. Telling me his story of the massive earthquake in Nepal and how he took care of his community during the disaster inspired me to create this application.

Please share this app as I hope it is an insightful learning tool for everyone.
