You can tip anyone and the beauty of it is - the recipient does not have to know what uPhil is, they don't need a bank account or smartphone either. All they need is a cellphone number.
To “Phil” (tip) someone, simply download uPhil (no Signup necessary). Tap the amount you wish to tip, at which point you will be redirected to Zapper. Phil in the recipient's cellphone number and tap pay. That's it.
uPhil sends an SMS and a WhatsApp to all recipients, the day after they've received their first tip, explaining how it works. We also send them a Zapper QR code that is linked to their cellphone number, so the next time someone tips them, they can simply scan the recipients code with Zapper.
Recipients are paid out on Fridays through a Shoprite Money Market account.
