Avis SafeDrive is a battery-draining, privacy-invading nightmare. If you opt into it, you're forced to install an app that constantly tracks your location and driving habits. It kills your phone battery and collects way too much personal data, which they admit is shared with third parties. Feels more like surveillance than a car rental perk. Definitely not worth it. Avoid if you value your phone—or your privacy.

I HV been A-Pref customer since 1999, flying neighboring countries, Middle East, North & West Africa. Tech came, Avis enforced this app. As tech savvy person I welcomed it but it ended up being an inhibitor instead of a guardian. Luckily I was local home and know all corners of SA so I ignored that nonsense app. Hope it is improved 3 yrs down the line
