About SOTO ZEN ceremonies

The All Japan Young Soto Zen Buddhist Priests Association, which is also known as Zensousei, is an organization comprising of the young Soto Zen Buddhist priests of Japan who are under the age of 41, and currently consists of about 2,700 members.

Zensousei is an organization that works for the purpose of “building an enriching and warm society through open-minded and innovative activities as we strive to better ourselves.”

Recently, we heard that there were Soto Zen Buddhist priests serving in the U.S. that were experiencing some difficulty with the movements of the different roles during ceremonies. Therefore, the current International Committee of Zensousei decided to translate Zensousei’s official application into English.

Using the English translation of the book Observances of the Soto Zen School as an important reference, we recorded the edited version of the ceremonies, “Offering to the Main Object” and “Ceremony of Taking Lay Precepts”.
The application includes the sajyo – ceremony program, haiyaku – the different roles of each ceremony, and a glossary.

In addition, you can watch videos that are only available on this app, which makes it easier to understand how the priests move during the ceremony.
Please use this app by all means!!
