About Dictionnaire Berner

The professional illustrated watchmaking dictionary written by Georges-Albert Berner in 1961 was a boon for the Swiss watchmaking industry and its clients throughout the world. The evolution of the branch throughout the decades led to the publication of a complement in 1995 with the precious collaboration of a number of experts. Among other subjects, it addressed electronic watchmaking, which appeared in the late 1960s.

Written in French, German, English and Spanish, and listing more than five thousand terms and some thousand illustrations, the Berner dictionary – as it is most often known today – quickly became the essential reference for watchmaking industrials, importers, distributors and aficionados on all five continents. It also constitutes a precious translation tool.

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH, has been publishing and distributing this dictionary for many years. It is available for free consultation on the FH website, www.fhs.swiss, and now with this application.

The paper version remains available, of course, via our order form.
