About TrackLink NauticEd
With the NauticEd TrackLink App, you can view and store all your sailing ventures on an accurate GPS track overlaid on a map. Each outing records and saves to your logbook the exact overlaid track, weather conditions, max speed, distance traveled, time elapsed, and specific notes. Your tracks are automatically tied to your vessel that you set up in your NauticEd profile. You can txt friends your live sailing track so they can follow you – which also acts as an accurate float plan. You can easily create an anchor drift alarm by drawing a circle around your boat on your screen with your finger (requires internet service for the anchor drift alarm map). You can grow your sailing resume and every venture outing is authenticated to your resume. Online, you can add crewmates and then they will also have the track added to their resume. In trouble? You can txt your emergency condition and your exact position and ongoing track to friends to alert emergency response authorities. Download the NauticEd TrackLink App now and start building your authenticated sailing resume. If you are new to NauticEd International Sailing Education, you will get two free sailing courses when you sign up for a free account.

Overly complicated and barely works
I added this app to automatically populate the log book on the NauticEd site. It’s clear that they tried to get too clever with the app, and in the process made it almost unusable. To track a sail, you must first create a geofence around your home port. You then must create another geofence around the water where you intend to sail. I *think* this is supposed to allow automation where the app will detect when you’re sailing. Instead, in four out of five uses so far, it has resulted in the app failing to record anything. There is no setting I found to turn off these stupid geofences and just manually start and stop tracking. Yesterday, as I prepared to shove off, I checked the app and saw that it thought I started sailing 30 minutes earlier and charted a max speed of 16 knots (apparently while I was searching for a parking spot inside my “home” geofence.) The app gave me the option to stop that track and restart a new one, which I did. On return, the app once again recorded no distance and no time lapsed. I like the feature of sharing a track, which has worked a few times but failed yesterday. (App told me I needed to set sharing to active, but that setting has been that way and remained so. It wouldn’t recognize and I was unable to share my track yesterday.) The automatic logging of sails tied to the NauticEd account, and ability to thus build an authenticated sailing resume, would be fantastic if it actually worked. Please add a setting to turn off those stupid geofence zones and let us manually start and stop tracks. Your attempt at automation just doesn’t work.

Tracking and anchor alarm are really nicely done. Great UI - intuitive with min taps Perfect complement to my nauticEd curriculum and log book.
