About Airway Triage

The Airway Triage App can be used for airway assessment and risk stratification by health care professionals in any clinical situation in which airway management is needed. It is a must have app for all airway managers. With the easy to use PHASE and HELP-ET checklists the airway of your patient can be triaged within a minute into basic or advanced. This is the best airway assessment method to clearly define basic airways that can be managed with basic airway management techniques by a trained person. Advanced airways should be managed by medical personnel with advanced airways skills and special equipment may be needed. Complexity factors that can make airway management challenging can be found, discussed and mitigated to make an airway management strategy and reduce risk at complications. This is the first airway assessment method that implements human factors, vital signs, clinical experience, the surgical procedure, equipment and time pressure. The app can be used in pre-assessment clinics, in the operating room environment, in the ICU and emergency department for patients > 12 years old or prior to procedural sedation. With the Circles of Life Approach you can check if you are “fit-to-fly" with this patient for this airway management procedure. Airway Triage App has great cognitive aids, for example the voice guided stop & go airway time-out procedure and the surgical airway rescue drill. Whether you’re in the hospital, the OR, or out in the field, the Airway Triage App gives you a clear, fast, and structured way to assess and manage airways. The PHASE and HELP-ET checklists are straightforward and help you sort out basic vs. advanced airways in under a minute—which is huge, especially in the prehospital environment when seconds matter. What sets this apart is that it goes beyond anatomy and takes into account human factors, team dynamics, equipment availability, and the actual clinical situation. I’ve used it to walk teams through risk stratification during intubation planning, and the built-in cognitive aids—like the airway time-out and surgical airway drill—are next-level. This app has real application in EMS, flight, ICU, ED, and anywhere airways are managed. If you’re serious about airway safety and decision-making, this should be in your toolkit.

This is a dynamic application that can raise the student’s and clinician’s awareness of the common pitfalls in safe airway management. The application focuses your awareness on the details of safe preparation, alternative plans for basic and advanced airway management, and offers the utility for the learner to keep a record of their procedures.
