Marathi (मराठी) is one of the 22 Indian languages spoken predominantly by people in the State of Maharashtra. Marathi is spoken by more than 70 million people, around the globe, making it the 19th most spoken language in the world. Quite a sizeable population outside of India speak Marathi on a regular basis and encourage their children to learn Marathi.
'Austin Marathi Shala' is an undertaking of 'Austin Marathi Mandal' (AMM), a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization, initiated by 'Bruhan Maharastra Mandal of North America' (BMM), solely run by volunteers.
The purpose of 'Austin Marathi Shala' is to facilitate the learning of Marathi culture and language and pass it on to the next generation. The primary aim of 'Austin Marathi Shala' is to empower children with the ability to read, write and communicate in Mararthi.
By attending Shala, the children get much needed exposure to Marathi culture, by learning about their heritage and celebrating different traditions at school. Additionally, students get an opportunity to showcase their newly acquired language skills, during various cultural programs, such as Ganapati and Diwali, conducted by 'Austin Marathi Mandal' (AMM).
'Austin Marathi Shala' curriculum has 9 grade levels to learn Marathi, in its entirety, with children in the age groups ranging from 4 years to 15 years.
This 'Austin Marathi Shala' application will help parents/teachers pace their teaching based upon student's leaning capability. Each grade will follow respective Syllabus and teachers will be expected to cover this syllabus in a time span of 12 weeks/semester pattern. The application has revision material along with sample reading material & oral / written exam papers for each grade, to promote familiarity with exam pattern and overall structure of the curriculum.
