Visit your own forest virtually
Stora Enso Metsä has developed Virtual Forest, which is a free online service offering every Finnish forest owner the opportunity to visit their forest virtually using a computer or a mobile device. The application combines forest-related information from various sources into a three-dimensional image.
The 3D view is based on open forest data maintained by The Finnish Forest Centre. In addition, laser-scanned height model and general map data on lakes, rivers and roads of The National Land Survey of Finland is also used for visualization.
The application offers e.g. an illustrative view to the future of forest - five, ten, 15 or 20 years from now. The simulation feature is based on measures and proposals of the forest management recommendations. In the Virtual Forest, one can also see the logging revenues of the measures as well as the cost effects.
The purpose of the Virtual Forest is to make the growth of the forest concrete and to encourage to look after the forest property.
The Virtual Forest is part of Stora Enso's eMetsa web service, which is a versatile tool for forest management. The use of Virtual Forest requires that you register as a user in eMetsa at www.emetsa.fi. The online service is free and does not require an agreement with Stora Enso.
